From the Sala...

A sala is an open aired pavillion used as a meeting place or a place to protect from the sun and rain. These are very common around Thailand, and are often used as a place of rest. Sala in Thai: ศาลา

Slice of Pai

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Carrie, Wendy, and I spent the past weekend in a lovely little town up north called PAI. It has become known as the backpacker-hippie hideaway and is tucked down in a valley which is completely surrounded by rice paddies and gorgeous mountains! We stayed in a little bungalow in the middle of a rice paddy, fully equipped with a water buffalo. Our place was so awesome because it was really simple, but at the same time had all of the amenities and technology that someone like me appreciates! Things like air-con, hot water, tv, dvd player, and wifi. Don't get me wrong, I can be more low maintenance than that if I have to be, but this was amazing! They also gave us a 30% discount on our bungalow since it's low tourist season, so that made the whole weekend super cheap!

It was SO nice and refreshing to getaway and just chill for a few days. That's what Pai is all about. Chill. Chill. Chill...and then chill some more.
